Launched in Beirut in 2014, Makhzin is a bi-lingual (English/Arabic) magazine dedicated to new and cross-genre writing, including prose, poetry, essays, and occasional translations. Makhzin publishes texts based on an annual open call and on commissions. In parallel with each issue, and running throughout the year, Makhzin commissions and publishes long-form interviews between writers, filmmakers, theorists, translators, and others.

Following a three year hiatus, Makhzin is currently working on its fourth issue, counterlexicons, with editors Mirene Arsanios, Ziad Dallal, and Salma Shamel. Each issue is edited by a set of rotating guest editors. Past editors include: Omar Berrada, Lara Khaldi, Ghalya Saadawi, Daisy Atterbury, Tarek El-Ariss, and Iman Mersal. Ghalya Saadawi and Iman Mersal were core editors of the magazine and continue to offer editorial guidance.
